General information & History

The comprehensive studies, reconnaissance and design of the dam and power plant commenced on Feb 1989 , as well as construction operations in the summer of 1994.

In1997, the water diversion operation was carried out and the dam body was concreted and erected on Oct 2004 which was followed log the filing process in Nov 2004 the plant is generating 500 MW of hydroelectric energy at the time being .

 

Geographical location:

28 km of east of Izeh  town  at north – east of  Khuzestan province.

 

Objectives and benefits of the project:

¯         Generating annually 4137 million KWH  hydroelectric energy by a 2000 MW

      power plant (that can be extended to 3000 MW).

¯         Controlling the floods and supplying approximately one billion m3 water for

      irrigation .

¯         Increasing  about % 60  of hydroelectric energy of the  country and %2.7 of 

      the total electricity generated in  the country in proportion to the  existing

      status.

¯         Approximately 200 million Dollars of annual benefit.

Water Diversion system:

U/S dike with the height of 43 m small D/S dike with the height of 17 m big D/S dike with the height of 32 m / two diversion tunnels with the completed diameter of 13 m and the length of 613 m for the  first one and the the length of 536 m for the second  one.
Capacity of the power plant:  2000 MW (8 units of 250 MW)
