IRAN WATER AND POWER RESOURCES

DEVELOPMENT COMPANY (IWPC)

Introduction & History: 

Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company (IWPC) was established in 1989 with the purpose of construction, development, completion of water supply, and transmission and generation of hydroelectric energy (including pumped storage) facilities as well as management of the projects in the aforementioned areas.

Studying and investigating the hydroelectric potentially is yet another activity done by the IWPC.

Due to the existence of there rivers including karun, karkheh, and Dez in Khuzestan province, the major actives of the IWPC have been concentrated in this province.

ChaharrmHal-Bakhtiyari, Lorestan and Ilam are other provinces in which the IWPC is running research and constructions steps.

The hydropower plants which one now under operation and have been constructed over the IWPC authority are as followed-:

·          Kharkheh dam(400 MW)

·          Masjed Soleyman dam (2000 MW)

·          Karun3 dam (2000 MW)
